Pioneering Shift: Former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Ventures to Microsoft

Sam Altman, who was ousted from his position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at OpenAI, is slated to take on a new role at Microsoft, a major tech corporation. Following his departure from OpenAI due to what the board cited as an inability to lead the company effectively.

 

In addition to Altman, Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, has also confirmed his departure from the company. A report from TheVerge, a technology news outlet, indicates that both Altman and Brockman are poised to join Microsoft, despite earlier discussions about Altman potentially rejoining OpenAI. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed that the former OpenAI colleagues will join Microsoft’s new Advanced AI Research Group.

“We are excited to announce that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, along with their colleagues, will be joining Microsoft’s new Advanced AI Research Team,” Nadella Wrote on social media. “We look forward to providing the necessary resources for their success.”

Altman also endorsed Nadella’s post by saying ‘the goal is ongoing’

Emmett Shear, former CEO and co-founder of Twitch, has taken on the role of acting CEO at OpenAI. Meanwhile,  Microsoft is establishing a dedicated department for AI research, with Altman and Brockman leading the initiative. Notably, the Microsoft recently disclosed its plans to develop its own AI chip.

Microsoft has a significant investment of around $10 billion in OpenAI and serves as its exclusive clout partner. Altman had been instrumental in the creation and promotion of ChatGPT, the renowned AI bot developed by OpenAI. His departure from the company came as a surprise to many observers.
